Start Oracle database in Windows safe mode

Operating system crashes are one of the issues that might face you especially if your server is using windows. This article explains how backup oracle database from windows safe mode. and by example, I will explain the steps to start oracle in windows safe mode and backup it up.

Unfortunately, If you try to start the Oracle database while your Windows OS was in safe mode, It will fail giving an error message

Error 1058: The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

Start DB Service Error

Also, if you tried to use the command line by starting the instances or listener you will get the Listner error

TNS-12500 TNS: protocol adapter error.
 TNS-00530: Protocol adapter error

Enable Oracle Service.

Change the Oracle service status, This will enable you to start the oracle database in safe mode. In this example Oracle database instance is ORCL, and as a result, the service name is Oracle ServiceORCL.

You can use either Command line interface, execute the following command

sc config OracleServiceORCL start=auto

Or if you prefer using Windows graphical interface, then follow these steps to enable Oracle services in Windows services

Right-click on start windows then click on Computer Management.

In the right-side panel expand Service and Applications, then click Service Link.

On the left side, make sure that the Oracle database and listener services are not disabled. To enable the services, double-click to open OracleServicesORCL properties then select manual from the startup type drop-down menu.

Repeat the process for the listener service.

Configure the service to run on windows safe mode.

add the following entries to the windows registry, allowing the Oracle services to run in Operating system safe mode.

REG ADD "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Network\OracleServiceORCL" /VE /T REG_SZ /F /D "Service"

REG ADD "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Minimal\OracleServiceORCL" /VE /T REG_SZ /F /D "Service"

Start oracle database

It’s essential to have your oracle database running to take a backup of the data you can start the service from the Computer management graphical interface. Just right-click on the service name then choose start.

or execute the following command from the Command prompt

net start OracleServiceORCL

To confirm that oracle is started. try to log in using sqlplus

sqlplus / as sysdba

Backup oracle database in safe mode:

To export the full database execute the following command

expdp directory=dump full=Y dumpfile=lastbackup_YYYYMMDD.dmp logfile=lastbackup_YYYYMMDD.log

This command used the database object directory named dump to save the database dump.

To create a directory using the following SQL statement.

SQL> CREATE DIRECTORY dump AS 'd:\dump_dir';

How to Enable Oracle ARCHIVELOG mode

Archivelog feature is a mechanism to prevent data losses in Oracle database Instances. This article explains how to enable or disable oracle archivelog mode to benefit from its feature and how to stop it.

Enabling it has its benefits. like, extended recovery of data, consistent hot backups. On the other hand, you need to always keep an eye on it to avoid issues like running out of space or startup issue.

Either Enabling or disabling oracle ARCHIVELOG more. you need to follow certain common steps. For example, you need to log into the Server with a user that has DBA privileges (usually named Oracle).

Then, define the Oracle database name by executing the following command

$ export ORACLE_SID= Database_SID;

Next, Connect to your database as sysdba.

$ sqlplus / as sysdba

If it didn’t work, try:

$ sqlplus /nolog

SQL> connect / as sysdba

Shutdown the database.

SQL> Shutdown immediate ;

Start database into mount mode.

SQL> startup mount ;

Enable Oracle archiveLog mode

Enter the following SQL command to enable ARCHIVELOG mode.

SQL> alter database enable archivelog;

How to fix Oracle Installer error INS-30131

While Installing Oracle client 12c or database on Windows 2008 server 64bit. The Oracle Universal might show this famous error message as it is related to OS configuration. So, The issue is tracked in bug 21452473. If you are trying to install oracle in Linux read that. This article explains how to fix Oracle Installer error INS-30131 in multiple ways.

Error Message

INS-30130 Initial setup required for the execution of installer validation failed.
Cause - Failed to access the temporary location
Action - Ensure that the current user has required permissions to access the temporary location.

Though, The error message explains the cause of the failure. It is a misleading error as the user which you are using to install is an Administrator that has full access to his temporary folder.

Explanation, Why is INS-30130 error happening?

The installer is accessing the temporary location through network share as part of checking for clustered Installation or something even if you are doing a single instance Installation for database or even Oracle client.

Solution

There are Multiple approaches To fix the Oracle installer error INS-30130. In the following sections, we explain them. Assume that you have administrator privileges.

Solution 1: Enable Windows Default shares

Sometimes Domain policy or the company’s security team disable Administration default share for various reasons. If it’s enabled (example \\C$, D$, etc…) then skip this section and proceed with other solutions, if not follow these steps.

Right click on the start menu and select Computer management
from the left side navigate into a shared folder then shares.
from Action menu select new share
Type C:\ which is your operating system drive. then Next and accept the warning
Enter share name C$ then next.
In the Shared Folder Permission Window Select “Administrators have full access; other users have no access” then click Finish.

Start your installer it should work without issues, if not please check other solutions.

Solution 2: Fix using Windows service and Registry Parameter.

In windows, there are some registry parameters that could fix the Oracle Installer error INS-30131.

A: Add Registry Parameter

You need to make sure that the following parameter exists and has a value of 1

Name: AutoShareWks
Type: REG DWORD
location: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters

If you created or updated it. You need to restart your operating system, so the changes take effect.

B: Stopping a Service

When the system starts, open Computer Management then Navigate to services.

On the right-side search for a service called OracleRemExecServiceV2 service then right-click stop

Stopping that Oracle service will delete itself.

Start Your oracle Installation it should work without any issue.

Solution 3: If you can’t enable Administrative shares

If the administrative shares setting is not enabled and the Windows user can’t enable it. Then, you could instruct the oracle installer to ignore pre-requisites checks. If you are performing a single-instance Oracle Database or Oracle Client installation for 12c.

Then we can perform the client or server installation by specifying the following options:

Parameters for a client installation:

-ignorePrereq -J"-Doracle.install.client.validate.clientSupportedOSCheck=false"

Parameter for database installation:

-ignorePrereq -J"-Doracle.install.db.validate.supportedOSCheck=false"

How to check ArchiveLog Status

Oracle as an Enterprise database, provides multiple mechanisms to prevent data losses and ensure that data is consistent. therefore, one of its critical features is “redo logs”. This enables Oracle instance to store all changes made to the database as they occur to preallocated files. This article explains the Redo Logs, archive Logs and what is need for ARCHIELOG, How to check ArchiveLog Status This feature allows RDBMS to reconstruct all changes made to the database When you recover the database using redo data.

What is ARCHIVELOG? Why enable it?

The redo log of a database consists of two or more redo log files. as the database requires at least two files. This causes size constraints for the amount of data saved by the Redo Logs. See “Oracle Managing Archived Redo Logs”. When the current redo log file fills, LGWR begins writing to the next available redo log file. When the last available redo log file fills, LGWR returns to the first redo log file and writes to it, starting the cycle again. Filled redo log files become available for reuse depending on archiving status.

If archiving is disabled (the database is in NOARCHIVELOG mode), a filled redo log file is available after the changes recorded in it have been written to the datafiles.
If archiving is enabled (the database is in ARCHIVELOG mode), a filled redo log file is available to LGWR after the changes recorded in it have been written to the datafiles and the file has been archived.

Check ArchiveLog Status ?

Login to Server CMD with DBA user (usually is Oracle) $ export ORACLE_SID=<Database SID> Connect to your database as sysdba $ sqlplus / as sysdba If it didn’t work, try: $ sqlplus /nolog SQL> connect / as sysdba Check the ARCHIVELOG mode status. execute the following SQL command: SQL> archive log list ; The output should be one of the following: ARCHIVELOG enabled:

Database log mode 		Archive Mode
Automatic archival 		Enabled
Archive destination		/u01/oracle/oradata/<MYDB>/arch
Oldest online log sequence 	5011

How to free oracle disk space – Automate disk cleanup.

In part one we explained what files Oracle Instance creates and eats our precious disk-space, This article explains how to identify and free oracle server disk space.

Reasons for the server to stop creating new files.

Servers might stop creating new files or adding new files due to multiple reasons:

1. You consumed all available disk space.

in that error, you get the message.

oracle@srv$ touch textfile 
touch: cannot touch ‘textfile’: No space left on device

You can detect file system disk space usage by executing the du command with -h parameter.

2. Your disk quota reached its limit.

oracle@srv$ mkdir tstdir
mkdir: cannot create directory ‘tstdir’: Disk quota exceeded

3. You consumed all allowed Inodes.

An inode is a data structure used to keep information about a file on your hosting account. The number of inodes indicates the number of files and folders you have. This includes everything on your account, emails, files, folders, anything you store on the server.

using du command with parameter -i it will show total nodes used and available Inodes for each mounted disk.

oracle@srv$ du -i

What directories need cleaning?

in that clustered environment which consists of two nodes and ASM. The script cleans the following directories

ASM Audit trail.
in ASM home “create separate ” script to be executed by grid user

/u01/app/12.1.0/grid/rdbms/audit

Database Audit trails.
in Database home

$ORACLE_BASE/diag/rdbms/$ORACLE_SID/$ORACLE_SID/trace

Database trace files.
in Database home

$ORACLE_BASE/admin/$ORACLE_SID/adump

ADRCI to clean your Oracle disk-space

After identifying the biggest directories that consume your server disk space. you need three environment variables which are ORACLE_UNIQNAME, ORACLE_SID, ORACLE_BASE

export ORACLE_UNQNAME=cdb1 
export ORACLE_SID=cdb1 
export ORACLE_BASE=/u01/app/oracle

Clear Audit and trace files using the Automatic Diagnostic Repository (ADR) tool. adrci located in bin under oracle home.

/u01/app/oracle/product/12.1.0/dbhome_1/bin/adrci

Next, list available homes that have logs.

adrci> show homes
ADR Homes:
diag/rdbms/omandb/omandb
diag/rdbms/tst/tst
diag/rdbms/db12c/db12c
diag/rdbms/cdb1/cdb1
diag/rdbms/dbks/dbks
diag/tnslsnr/ora12c/listener
diag/clients/user_oracle/host_1954257820_82

Then, set adrci home that the purge command will work in. for example, for cdb1

set home diag/rdbms/cdb1/cdb1

After that, purge all logs.

adrci> purge -age 60

Finally, repeat this process with each home. in addition, if there are other oracle software installed change the adrci base, then repeat the same process.

Schedule cleaning script.

First, create a cleanup script and put in it the command that will remove all traces and audit files.
oracle@srv$ vi /u01/cleanUP.sh

export ORACLE_UNQNAME=cdb1 
export ORACLE_SID=cdb1 
export ORACLE_BASE=/u01/app/oracle 
find $ORACLE_BASE/admin/$ORACLE_SID/adump -name “*.aud” -mtime +14 -type f -delete 
find $ORACLE_BASE/diag/rdbms/$ORACLE_SID/$ORACLE_SID/trace -name “*.tr?” -mtime +14 -type f -delete

now you add it to cron scheduler to execute every day at 1AM. Read corn manual for more information

How to free oracle server disk space.

Oracle database creates various types of files for logging each has its role. For example, Trails, trace files, and logs. These files are important and provide a lot of information, it will quickly consume server space handicapping server performance. That if they were not maintained properly. This article goes through the process of finding what eats Server space and provides a clear explanation of free oracle server disk space.

While I was monitoring Oracle 12c cluster for one of the clients, I noticed a fast decline in oracle server free disk space, and Oracle home is creating lots of log files, trace files, and Audit files.

If DBA neglect regular maintenance, the Oracle home directory can grow very large, as, the number of audit trail, logs, and trace files fills up the server’s disk-space, even if the system os online for less than a few months.

What eats my server’s space?

first, you need to investigate from which folder causing the problem by estimate file space usage for each folder by executing the du command

du -sh  ./* | sort -h

-s display only a total for each argument

-h print sizes in human-readable format (e.g., 1K 234M 2G)

sort the output by size.

It is better to start digging from your oracle home, then identify which directory is eating your server disk-space. Next, navigate into that folder and repeat the procedure until you identify all folders that consume most of the free space (I call it the naughty list).

du -sh ./* | sort -h

Locations and Types of log files

#Oracle_database creates many types of files and does not track them. hence, in long run these files trouble. Usually, these files are related to Instance operation, security, backups, memory, instance errors, and others. in addition, these files stored in local file system.

Audit trail files

Oracle Database provides robust audit support in both the Enterprise and Standard Edition of the database. furthermore, the Audit records include information about the operation ,like , the user performing the operation, and the date and time of the operation. Audit records stored in the database audit trail or in files on the operating system. Standard auditing includes operations on privileges, schemas, objects, and statements.

You can configure Audit location by modifying database parameters.

AUDIT_FILE_DEST

specifies the operating system directory into which the audit trail is written when the AUDIT_TRAIL initialization parameter is set

AUDIT_SYS_OPERATIONS.

Enables the auditing of operations issued by user SYS, and users connecting with SYSDBA, SYSOPER, SYSASM, SYSBACKUP, SYSKM and SYSDG privileges. The audit trail data writs to the operating system audit trail.set This parameter value to true.

The default location of the operating system audit trail on Unix/Linux is $ORACLE_BASE/admin/$ORACLE_SID/adump. The default on Windows is the event log.

For optimal performance, it should refer to a directory on Oracle server local disk.

Trace Files

Trace File is a text file ( called dump) that Oracle Database creates to help you diagnose and resolve operating problems. Each server and background process writes to a trace file. When a process detects an internal error, it writes information about the error to its trace file.

the Automatic Diagnostic Repository (#ADR) stores Trace files in the trace directory under each ADR home. To help you locate individual trace files within this directory, you can use data dictionary views. For example, you can find the path to your current session’s trace file or to the trace file for each Oracle Database process.

To find all trace files for the current instance:

SELECT VALUE FROM V$DIAG_INFO WHERE NAME = 'Diag Trace';

The output is the ADR trace directory path for the current instance. To control the number of these files, and manage it with operating system tools:

Install EBS R12.2 on Linux 7

This article explains how to install Oracle EBS R12.2 on Linux 7 step by step. In addition, It provides the instruction to configure your OS. So, EBS installation complete in a single straight shot and avoids errors in your installation.

Oracle EBusness Suite (#EBS) installation is a lengthy one, because of the installation process validation, and install Database, Middleware. Though, Oracle University Installer (OUI) made the Installation a bit straight forward. However, Its validation takes a lot of time before it shows any error messages. therefore, follow the pre-installation configuration mentioned below to get a smooth installation.

Before we start there are few assumptions, like:

Your server has enough free space at least 300GB.
I will use /u01 as a base of operations, for example, it holds source zip files, extracted stage folders, and installation files too.
Source files are located in /u01/src

EBS prerequisites for a successful install.

The following configurations are essential for EBS R12.2 installation success. therefore, Execute the following commands with a privileged user.

1. Server hostname.

Make sure that your server hostname is stored in the hosts file in the proper syntax

<IP-Address>     <hostname.domainname>        <HOSTNAME>
192.168.0.50     ebssrv1.cloudadmin.club       ebssrv1

2. Oracle Linux preinstall Packages

Then, Update your operating system and Install Oracle pre-installation configuration packages for both database and EBS. each package fulfill the prerequisites of one of the components.

[root@ebssrv1 ~]# yum update -y
[root@ebssrv1 ~]# yum install -y oracle-database-server-12cR2-preinstall.x86_64
[root@ebssrv1 ~]# yum install -y oracle-ebs-server-R12-preinstall.x86_64

This installation will create the oracle user and all required groups oinstall, hence, you need to set a password for the oracle user.

3. Oracle Inventory file

It’s essential to creat and configure Oracle inventory file correctly. If not, It will cause your installation to fail, as, the EBS R12.2.5 wizard will try to access /oracle/oraInventory which does not exist. therefore, let’s create it in /etc/ with name oraInst.loc

the file should have the following lines:

[root@ebssrv1 ~]# cat /etc/oraInst.loc
inventory_loc=/u01/oraInventory
inst_group=oinstall

4. File system fold structure

To Install Oracle EBS you need 3 directories, that is to say,

Source directory: It contains the Zip files that you downloaded from Oracle.
Stage directory: Contains the extract of zip files in structure needed by the installer.
EBS Installation Directory: that contains the running instance and datafiles.

Oracle Base directory

Create /u01 and change ownership

[root@ebssrv1 ~]# mkdir /u01
[root@ebssrv1 ~]# chown -R oracle:oinstall /u01

5. Configure Linux Firewall

Oracle EBS needs a group of ports, So the following command enables access to its default ports. I intentionally didn’t add the database listener to prevent external access to the database.

[root@ebssrv1 ~]# firewall-cmd --permanent --zone=public --add-port={7001/tcp,7201/tcp,7401/tcp,7601/tcp,7801/tcp,8889/tcp,9999/tcp,8000/tcp}

[root@ebssrv1 ~]# firewall-cmd --permanent --zone=public --add-port={7002/tcp,7202/tcp,7402/tcp,7602/tcp,7802/tcp,8890/tcp,10000/tcp}

[root@ebssrv1 ~]# firewall-cmd --reload
success

Build Oracle EBS R12.2 stage.

To prepare for EBS installation, navigate into Source folder ( /u01/src), then extract StartCD compressed files

cd /u01/src
unzip V100052-01_1of3.zip
unzip V100052-01_2of3.zip
unzip V100052-01_3of3.zip

It will extract the content into a directory called startCD.

Next, Navigate into /u01/src/startCD/Disk1/rapidwiz, then execute buildStage.sh script.

This interactive script will give you the option to create the staging directory structure and extract the ZIP files into it, consequently, we will be able to start the installation
To build stage structure I will ask to provide the EBS source directory

[root@ebssrv1 ~]# cd /u01/src/startCD/Disk1/rapidwiz/bin
[root@ebssrv1 bin]# ./buildStage.sh

After application starts, The interactive Configuration menu will prompt you for your input.

Firstly, press Enter to open the Build stage menu, Next, Press (1) to create a new stage area for your ebs installation.

Next, press 2 to select Linux as a platform

Finally, specify the directory that contains the zipped installation files, in our example the files stored in /u01/src/zipFiles. Then press Enter.

Follow the procedures mostly It is informational, as the script will verify the files, then extract them, after that, it will apply patches, and finally, it will Exit.

How to install EBS R12.2.

This article’s objective is to ensure a successful install of Oracle ebs R12.2 on your Oracle Linux 7 server. therefore, We will not discuss advanced Installation.

To start the installation. First, Navigate to oracle EBS rapid installer to start to install oracle EBS.

[root@ebssrv1 ~]# cd /u01/src/startCD/Disk1/rapidwiz/
[root@ebssrv1 rapidwiz]# ./rapidwiz

When the Wizard UI opens,Check use Express Install then press Next.

Nex, You will be asked to enter the following values

Database type: whether your installation has demo data or clean installation.
Enter Database SID : VIS
Domain: Enter the domain that your server belongs to, As explained in EBS R12.2 prerequisites section. For example, our domain is cloudadmin.club the wizard will attach hostname.
Oracle FusionMiddleware credentials (username-password)
Oracle Base Dir: make sure you have the correct path /u01.

When you press Next. the wizard will issue system check

If you applied the configuration correctly, The results should appear like this image.

Now, press Next to proceed with the installation, press Next then Next.

When the installation finishes It will show you the post-installation validation.

The previous screen shows a successful post-installation check for your installation. press Next will show the finish screen.

After your installation is complete. Click on the “Connect to oracle e-bussiness suite release 12.2” button, or open your EBS URL in our example: http://ebssrv1.cloudadmin.club:8000 to get the EBS login page.

Access your EBS using default username sysadmin and password sysadmin too.

Our conclusion that the Install process of Oracle EBusiness Suite (EBS) is a time consuming, especially when you repeat the process because EBS R12.2 prerequisites on Linux were not fulfilled. If you properly configured your operating system and followed the instructions in this article you will save your time and get it done from the first time.

It’s a common issue, Yet confusing. a Java application, for example, an ADF application developed with JDeveloper 12c. though it is working fine in the Embedded WebLogic Server of JDeveloper, It fails when you try to deploy it or start it in a stand-alone managed server, or in your WLS Domain giving error that It misses a library adf.oracle.businesseditor, adf.oracle.domain, or adf.oracle.domain.webapp. Hence, This article explains how to define the missing library and how to solve [J2EE:160149]Unresolved application library references error message.

This solution works on:

Oracle Weblogic, Oracle Fusion Middleware 11.x, Oracle Fusion Middleware 12.1, and Oracle Fusion Middleware 12.2.

The full error message usually:

weblogic.management.DeploymentException: [J2EE:160149]Error while processing library references. 
Unresolved application library references, defined in weblogic-application.xml:[Extension-Name: adf.oracle.domain, exact-match: false]

What causes [J2EE:160149]Unresolved application library references error?

You deployed a Java application on a managed server, and your deployment needs a library that is not included in your WAR/EAR file and your managed server can’t provide access to that library. for example, there is missing ADF Runtime Libraries from the managed server where you deployed your application.

Where is adf.oracle.domain library?

The missing Java Required Files (JRF) already bundled with WebLogic Deployments as a library type, you just need to add The Managed Server you want to deploy or start your application as a Target to the missing libraries, so your application can access adf.oracle.domain library.

Usually when application complaints about ad.oracle.domain library, It does for two additional libraries adf.oracle.businesseditor and adf.oracle.domain.webapp.

SOLUTION

the following steps will allow your managed server to have access to the library:

Logon to WebLogic Console
Click on Deployments
Lookup in Deployments for the missing library name, in my case it was the following:

- adf.oracle.businesseditor(1.0,12.2.1.1.0)
- adf.oracle.domain(1.0,12.2.1.1.0)
- adf.oracle.domain.webapp(1.0,12.2.1.1.0)

and if you didn’t find it click on Customize this table and make sure to untick Exclude libraries when displaying deployments then click Apply

4. Click on library name oracle.domain(1.0,12.2.1.1.0) then Lock & Edit

5. Click on the Targets tab. Then, Select the Managed Server or Cluster where your application deployed or

6. Click on Save then Activate Changes

7. Follow same steps from 4 to 6 on following library too

- adf.oracle.businesseditor(1.0,12.2.1.1.0)
- adf.oracle.domain.webapp(1.0,12.2.1.1.0)

Important note: You may need to repeat the steps above for other libraries that I’ve not listed here, it depends on which ADF extensions your application is using.

in Conclusion, the missing adf.orac.e.domain libraries come with WebLogic. however, you can use the same procedures to investigate missing libraries and link it to your managed server, as Oracle Fusion Middleware provides a conglomerate of libraries that is common between applications.

Start EBS R12.2 on Linux

If you are new to Oracle E-Business suite R12.2 on Linux, You might find stating EBS instance a bit confusing especially after rebooting your server. If you try to execute adstrtal.sh script directly, It will fail. As there are some preparations If that is your case then, this article is for you. It explains how to safely stop and start oracle EBS processes on Linux. For information on how to install EBS R12.2 on Linux Server.

Production environments host their database runs on a separate server. For that, EBS R12.2 does not include starting the database in their start script, even if it is hosted on the same server.

There are two phases to start oracle E-Business suite R12.2 on Linux.

First Phase: start EBS database.

Second Phase: Find start Script and start EBS instance.

Start EBS database

Starting EBS database is a bit different than starting a normal Oracle database. First, you need to identify ebs database’s home.

Get server name is simple just execute the following command.

$ tree -d -L 2 /u01

The output depends on your Oracle Base directory, for example, It shows oracle home bellow the VIS directory.

Next, we will load database environment variables.

[oracle@ebssrv1 ~]$ ls -l /u01/VIS/12.1.0/*.env
-rw-r--r--. 1 oracle oinstall 4205 Aug 8 09:15 /u01/VIS/12.1.0/VIS_ebssrv1.env
[oracle@ebssrv1 ~]$ source /u01/VIS/12.1.0/VIS_ebssrv1.env

Finally, Start the database and the database listener. By executing the following commands.

[oracle@ebssrv1 ~]$ lsnrctl start
[oracle@ebssrv1 ~]$ echo "startup" | sqlplus -s / as sysdba

The output of the command will look like that:

Start Oracle EBS Instance using adstrtal.sh

After Starting EBS database, Next is to start The E-Business suite R12.2 process. Simply execute adstrtal.sh from EBS administrator script directory.

Default Path for the script in /u01/VIS/fs1/inst/apps/VIS_ebs/admin/scripts

To execute a shell script in Linux or UNIX from the same directory which the script located is simple. You just need to add ./ before the script’s name. For example, in our situation to execute the adstrtal.sh script.

[oracle@ebssrv1 ~]$ cd /u01/VIS/fs1/inst/apps/VIS_ebs/admin/scripts
[oracle@ebssrv1 ~]$ ./adstrtal.sh

when you execute the script, it will ask you to provide three credentials Apps username, APPS password, and Weblogic Password.

Note: EBS R12.2 APPS default username is apps and the password is apps too.

You could provide username and password for apps as parameters for adstart.sh script as follows:

[oracle@ebssrv1 ~]$ ./adstrtal.sh apps/apps

It’s not recommended to do so. besides, it will ask for WebLogic Server password.

Stop Oracle EBS R12.2

To achieve safe shutdown of ebs services, you need to reverse the order of the process.

stop Oracle EBS instance

First, stop ebs R12.2 instance using the adstpall.sh script which is located in EBS admin scripts directory.

After executing it, it will ask for the Apps user credentials and WebLogic Server password.

[oracle@ebssrv1 ~]$ /u01/VIS/fs1/inst/apps/VIS_ebssrv1/admin/scripts/adstpall.sh

Stop the ebs database.

To stop the ebs database, first, load the environment variables. Then, shut down the database and the listener.

To summarize, You need to start the database before you start ebs, If you executed the adstrtal.sh script without starting the database, It will fail. consequentially, you will need to restart your server. First Start your database, then, execute the script.

weblogic poolDisabledSQLException solved!

Oracle middleware applications sometimes stop working, and generate an error message weblogic.jdbc.exetentions.poolDisabledSQLException. This article addresses this issue, showing you how to fix it.

The following scenario demonstrates the issue when Oracle web center and Oracle content server 12c where are hosted on Oracle Linux gave both error messages weblogic.common.resourceDisabledException and weblogic.jdbc.exetentions.poolDisabledSQLException.

Content Server Request Failed due poolDisabledSQLException

The development team encountered an unusual error that our Oracle WebCenter content server Console does not open, and it is generating the following error message.

Content Server Request Failed
Unable to load the user information. Encountered an exception while executing a query.
“unable to execute service method ‘getConnection’. weblogic.jdbc.exetentions.poolDisabledSQLException: weblogic.common.resourceDisabledException: pool CSDS is Suspended, cannot allocate resources to application…

Clearly, The WebCenter content server is complaining that there is a suspended data source that is mandatory for it to function properly.

weblogic.common.resourcepool.ResourceDisabledException in Logs

When you open the log file of the managed server, you will find a long detailed Java exception contains the following line.

Caused By: weblogic.jdbc.extensions.PoolDisabledSQLException: weblogic.common.resourcepool.ResourceDisabledException: Pool CSDS is Suspended, cannot allocate resources to applications..
at weblogic.jdbc.common.internal.JDBCUtil.wrapAndThrowResourceException(JDBCUtil.java:269)
at weblogic.jdbc.common.internal.RmiDataSource.getPoolConnection(RmiDataSource.java:529)

Yet, this is a misleading error message as this error message does not show the real cause. it just complains about the data source that can’t reach. But if you scrutinize the error message you will get some useful leading points. hence, to start investigating the issue.

Leading point number one: unable to execute service method ‘getConnection’

It says that web content server can’t get the database connection

Leading point number two: weblogic.jdbc.exetentions.poolDisabledSQLException

There is a data-source which has its connect pool disabled

Leading point number three: pool CSDS is Suspended

Now we are getting a thread we can follow. CSDS Data-source is suspended.

From this last point, we will investigate the reasons which caused data-source CSDS to stop working

Resume suspended data source pool

By searching the WebLogic logs you will find the same error mentioned above. To get the real cause of the problem. You need to resume the data-source so the original error will appear in the logs.

Open WebLogic console and follow these steps to resume data-source.

First, click the data-sources link under the services tree, that is located in the domain structure tree.

Second, the list of data-sources appears on the right side, click on our suspect data-source which in our case it’s CSDS.

As shown in the image below to control the data-source you need to open its configuration window

select Control tab.
Select all suspended connections (usually all the list ).
Click on the resume.

poolDisabledSQLException cause and solution!

When the data-source tries to connect to the database, Weblogic will log any errors that causing the issue. in our case, It shows an expired database username password.

<Jun 2, 2019, 7:15:13,304 PM GST> <Warning> <JDBC> <BEA-001129> <Received exception while creating connection for pool "CSDS": ORA-28001: the password has expired.>

the data-source will work properly, After resetting the password and resuming the data-source.

If you want to avoid the repetition of the issue in the future, therefore, you need to change the user’s profile setting and disable password expiration.

To conclude, This issue is a result of the data-source failure to connect to the database. If you fix that cause and resumed the data-source, the Application should resume working.
